Tata Harper Volumizing Lip & Cheek Tints are newer-to-my makeup collection. These tints have been reviewed and swatched by many bloggers out there, but I thought I’d try to give you a different take on them–more than just the basics– so you can really try to imagine the product and decide if this would be right for you.
After I got into the brand with the lip treatments (my post), I also wanted to try these. So far I’ve purchased 4 of 6 available colors. The shades available are: Very Popular (Warm Rose), Very Nice (Pinkish Nude), Very Sweet (Shimmering Peach), Very Charming (Petal Pink), Very Naughty (Ruby Red), and Very Vivacious (Coral). I have not tried the last two shades in the list.
The tints come in little glass pots with screw on lids. While I would love for these to come in twist up sticks or even mirrored compacts, I have to admit that the pots are really fun. There is something nostalgic and satisfying about holding the glass jar of potted color in my hand.
So why have I bought shade after shade of these? The ingredients are why– it’s skincare ingredients in the form of colored makeup. Because I feel completely confident about the contents, I plan to use these all the time. And, by the way, you do need to reapply these often to maintain color, but I’ll discuss that further down.
Tata Harper Volumizing Lip & Cheek Tint Ingredients:
Cocos nuciferra (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Cera Alba (Beeswax)*, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed wax, Natural and Organic flavors, Palmitoyl Isoleucine, Camellia sinensis (Green Tea) seed oil*, Plukenetia (Sacha Inchi) Volubilis Oil*, Euterpe oleracea (Acai) fruit oil*, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Lavandula stoechas (Spanish Lavender) Extract, Tocopherol MAY CONTAIN: Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI 77491, CI 75409, CI 77891, CI 77492) Carmine, Jojoba Esters, Mica, Trihydroxystearin
As cosmetics go, this list is astonishingly pure. Add the information provided by the brand, that all products are gluten free, synthetic free, cruelty free, made in the USA, and so on (note that they are technically not “vegan” because of the beeswax used), and I feel good about using Tata Harper products for many reasons.
However, these tints may not be for every girl or for every occasion. I find that the colors wear off quickly on both my cheeks and lips, and I have to be willing to re-apply it if want color that shows. For my lips, I like to re-apply balm or gloss throughout the day, so this does not bother me. But the color fade from my cheeks is annoying and I constantly check the mirror to see if I look like a ghost or a happy girl. My take on this is if you’re hardcore into healthy makeup then you are probably willing to check the mirror more often to re-apply tint. At least, that’s how I feel about it. I won’t digress too far here, but let’s just say that very few products on the market are “clean.” That means that any product with the “fragrance” ingredient could be sneaking in really anything. If you are genuinely sensitive and reactive, you would benefit from a brand that goes all the way in terms of purity and quality. Tata Harper, I feel, does that.
The other qualities of these tints are all good things though. There is the slightest scent from the natural ingredients that actually reminds me a bit of that old-school violet lipstick smell. It’s very pleasant. The color selection is good, and the tints come in different finishes and levels of sheerness.
-My favorite in terms of smooth application and sheerness is “Very Popular” (Warm Rose).
-My favorite actual color is “Very Charming” (Petal Pink). This does not come as a surprise to me, because I love bluish pinks.
-“Very Sweet” (Shimmering Peach) and “Very Nice” (Pinkish Nude) show up on my lips but not as well on my cheeks.
-“Very Nice” applies with heavy color pay-off and “Very Sweet” is sheer.
I am eyeing “Very Naughty” and I’m sure it will soon be mine. Any even against my better judgment, I will probably get “Very Vivacious” one day — though orange/coral is not usually for me.
