Mascara. Sigh. The bad ones get in our contacts, crumble up and sprinkle our cheeks black, and raccoon our eyes. But good ones can make a tired woman look alive and turn a shy girl into a flirt.

It’s such a divisive thing, mascara. Most women I know have mascara loyalties and are all too happy to tell you about the worst mascara they’ve ever tried. For me, the famed Maybelline pink-and green-tube mascara is the worst ever. I have no idea why it always gets recognition from magazines about how classic and amazing it is. I don’t understand why any makeup artist would use it.

Anyhow, so I’ve been using Lancôme mascaras for about half my life now. I used to use navy colored Définicils, but that was discontinued. So I settled on simple black Définicils and have been using it ever since.

I occasionally want to have fun though (yes, I promise), and to me fun with mascara means color. Last August I embarked on a mission to find the best dark blue mascara. I tried L.A. Colors Mascara in Electric Blue- 504 and Hard Candy Mascara in Electric Blue, before concluding that cheap mascara wasn’t cutting it. So I gave in and spent the money for Makeup Forever Smoky Lash Mascara in Dark Blue- 05, which was worth it.

Given that I enjoy some color and love Lancôme mascaras, I was interested in trying these limited edition Lancôme Hypnôse Chromatics Top Coat for Lashes. I have Amethyste- 02 (Purple) and Saint Honore- 03 (Gold) here to show you. (Note: it’s difficult to get a photo that shows off the qualities any of mascara (for me at least). I’ve taken shots in different lighting and from different angles, so I hope at least some are helpful for you!)

Here I applied my Définicils and gave it a few minutes to dry before applying several thin coats of Hypnôse top coat. Check it out:

I had fun with these top coats but I quickly realized they are indeed chromatic, and therefore not something I’d just wear around town. These aren’t disco-level crazy either, so I’d recommend them for a night out even if you’re waltzing!

Do you love them?!?

Until later.
