First let’s do a quick comparison of price and size:

Sephora’s Color Reveal Balm in Unique Pink – $13

Trish McEvoy Lip Perfector Conditioning Balm – $32

Unbelievably, I could’t find the product sizes, so instead I took a photo for an eyeball comparison of what you’re getting (hint: Trish appears to come with more product).

Sephora’s version has been around for a few years but I believe Trish’s version is a new release.

Sephora’s balm comes in atypical Sephora black tube with a slanted tip, and smells of vanilla. I like vanilla but I can imagine some would find this irritating. I don’t detect a taste however. The balm feels light but waxy once applied, which is indeed how I expect a balm to feel. The color it “reveals” is subtle but noticeable—a flush of pink, and is a tad pinker and less coral than Trish’s. Sephora’s balm is just a tad bit glossy, though that gloss wears off quickly.

Trish’s balm comes in a black tube as well, with a traditional rounded balm top. The case is noticeably heavier than Sephora’s. It applies easily and feels thicker and waxier than Sephora’s. As with other Trish lip products, the balm is minty smelly but not tasting. Trish’s balm is not glossy at all.

Both balms adjusted quickly when applied to my hand, making me think that only a bit of the end color is actually from a PH or heat reaction with the lips, and a lot is from the base color of the balms in the tubes. However, the good news is that both balms do leave a stain behind once they’ve worn off. The stain from both was about the same, and was very subtle — nothing like the “I just ate a popsicle” look you may get from other stains.

Would I buy either of these again? Honestly, I don’t think I would, especially knowing how many other options are out there. So far my favorites are still Dior Addict Lip Glow (Pink) and Arrow Boost Color Enhancing Lip Balm, shown earlier in this series.

What do you think out there?

Still to come in this series: Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint, Dior Addict Lip Glows in Coral and Lilac, and more!
