I bought this palette to review alongside of the Laura GellerYSL, and e.l.f. palettes. I thought Clinique’s Sculptionary Palette in Defining Sugars would be a tone correcting or filtering palette like the others, but it turned out to be something else completely.

First of all, let’s talk texture. The powder in this palette is creamy but also soft and messy. I don’t recommend using a buki brush or a foundation brush. Just try a fluffy powder brush.

In the alternative, for true contouring, maybe try a wet sponge dipped in each color and applied precisely before being blended in like crazy. After all, this is meant to be a contouring palette. I tried to use it as such, but found that it serves better as a blush with all the colors swirled together. It’s very, very pretty but just fills a different spot in my makeup bag (er, suitcase?). As you can see, this one is shimmery, and the shimmer doesn’t disappear once it’s on your face. You can see the shimmer near my eye in the photo of my face.

If you like to look luminous but not shimmery then pass on this. Like the YSL palette, Clinique’s colors also make beautiful eyeshadows. I’ll be honest — I don’t see myself using this palette on a daily basis, at least not for my face. It’s just too much for me. I like to look natural or satin and dewey, but not shimmery. This would be fun for a younger set though!

What do you think? Have you tried this palette?
